ABOUT ME...
Greetings.
I am CJ Johnson, a professional freelance journalist, blogger, sometime ghost writer + copy editor, and in-demand writing coach.
In essence, I write for a living.
I am a former high school English teacher and 5th grade reading specialist. I am certified in Special Education K-12. I love teaching just as much as I do writing.
I re-ignited my love for creative writing roughly six years ago when I got laid-off as a teacher at a charter school. I gave freelancing a shot in 2011 and have not looked back since.
But, geesh-
I made a series of mistakes starting out. Some are downright laugh-able. But, I have survived and now I am thriving. I have published three non-fiction books that have garnered 5 Star Amazon reviews and financial gains.
Creative non-fiction such as memoir and the personal essay is my strong suit as a writer. Poetry is a close second.
I have racked up a series of publishing credits in the health, wellness, personal development, social justice and poetry sub-genres.
My niches include:
Mental Health, Dating/Relationships, Personal Development, and Women's Issues/Rights.
Initially, I was a copy writer for hire but have transitioned into journalism, copy editing on occassion, and writing coaching.
My long-term goals include becoming a licensed Psychologist that works with women in the areas of trauma, PTSD, depression, and relationship counseling, while continuing to teach writers how to go from "good to great."
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Literature from the University of Texas at Dallas and will be beginning my Masters degree in Clinical Psychology Spring 2016.
I am left handed, run 15+ miles a week, can dance all night, loves to travel, hearts indie films + popcorn, and lives in the heart of NYC.(That sounded like a dating profile didn't it? But that's the real deal me summed up in a tight sentence)
